The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (IUSD) is proud to partner with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to offer students ages 6 to 18 the OCTA Youth Ride Free Bus Pass program.  The program is grant-funded by the California Department of Transportation and the California Air Resources Board through California Climate Investments which help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment.

OCTA Youth Ride Free Passes are available at each IUSD school site.  A completed and signed Parent Request Form (one per student) must be to be turned into your child's school to obtain the pass(es).  OCTA Youth Ride Free Bus Passes can only be provided in-person.  Hard copies of the Parent Request Form are available at your school site, if needed.   

Important Update for Parents

OCTA is introducing a new account-based system.  Bus rides for youths ages 6-18 with the Youth Ride Free pass are still free.  OCTA is phasing out the old paper magnetic strip cards and are replacing them with new durable Wave cards, which are easier to manage and more secure.  Wave cards are ready to use once received; however, parents are encouraged to create an account at to keep the card active in future years. 

Wave passes are valid through September 30, 2026.

Yes. Each child requires a separate parental request form, and the form must be resubmitted each year.

The Youth Ride Free pass is good for one school year. The blue paper pass is valid through Sept. 30, 2025, the new wave (hard plastic) pass is valid until Sept. 30, 2026. 

With nearly 60 routes and more than 5,400 stops, OC Bus makes it easy to get to school, work and fun. such as the Transit App make it simple to figure out when the bus will arrive and how to plan trips. OCTA also offers transit training to promote bus riding confidence.

IUSD high schools are open during the summer, however, their normal hours may vary so please call prior to arrival.  If requesting a pass for a student not attending high school, please email info@iusd.org for support.
