Suicide Prevention Month: Know the Signs, Seek Help

Suicide Prevention Month

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and we would like to remind the IUSD community how to access information and resources for discussing suicide prevention, knowing the signs, and seeking help. Please know that you are not alone, you matter and there is help. We are here to support you. Please speak up, we care.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 or chat at  to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If immediate assistance is needed, call 911.

  • For information about warning signs and additional resources, visit iusd.org/SuicidePrevention.
  • Irvine Family Counseling Center offers short-term, solution-focused individual and family therapy, resource linkage and referrals, and parent education/support groups to IUSD families K-12. Call 949-936-7502 or email christineguerrero@iusd.org for more information.
  • Say Something Anonymous Reporting System enables students to seek support anonymously for themselves or for friends. Three ways to use the system are:
    • 1-844-5-SAYNOW or 1-844-572-9669
    • Mobile App - available for free on the App Store for IOS and Google Play for Android  
  • is a specialized unit within the Irvine Police Department that provides care for those experiencing mental health crises, homelessness, and non-criminal behavioral issues. Call (949) 724-7000 for support and service.
  • provides mental health concierge services to connect families to outside mental health and wellness resources.
  • Hazel Health - Through Hazel Health, IUSD students (K-12) can access virtual Mental Health and Wellness support from home, with parent/caregiver consent. Hazel uses therapeutic processes delivered by licensed therapists. This service is being offered at no cost to IUSD students.

Crisis Hotlines:

  • Orange County Suicide Prevention/Crisis Line - Confidential 24-hour telephone counseling to individuals contemplating, threatening, or attempting suicide. Call (877) 7-CRISIS or (877-727-4747)
  • The OC Warm Line - Non-crisis, caring support for anyone struggling with emotional/mental health challenges. Call (877) 910-WARM or (877-910-9276).
  • 211 & OC Links Information & Referral Services - Free 24-hour information and referral line linking to thousands of local health and human service programs in the OC. Call 2-1-1, (855) OC-LINKS or (888-625-4657)

In addition to providing these and other resources, IUSD middle and high school counselors, elementary resource counselors and mental health specialists have been sharing resources and information with students while making information available to families through school communications and social media.
