Child Find

The Child Find process requires IUSD to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities residing in its jurisdiction. This obligation includes all students who attend private (including religious) schools, migrant or homeless students, students who are wards of the State, and students with suspected disabilities who are advancing in grade level. (20 USC Â§1412 (a)(3)(A), 20 USC Â§1412 (a)(10)(A)(ii)(I), 34 CFR Â§300.111, 34 CFR Â§300.131,34 CFR Â§300.111(c)(2), 34 CFR Â§300.101(c), 30 EC Â§56301)

It is important to note that Child Find is a screening process that identifies children who have a disability, or are suspected of having a disability, and may need special education and related services. Children identified through the Child Find process shall still be assessed to confirm eligibility.

If you believe that your child may qualify for special education and requires a special education assessment, please contact the school psychologist at your school.  If your child attends a private school and you believe a special education assessment is required, please contact the school psychologist at your neighborhood school.  You can find your neighborhood school through the IUSD SCHOOL LOCATOR
