In the Automotive Pathway, students will gain hands-on experience working with modern vehicles while building a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). This pathway leads to higher education programs and careers in STEM, mechanics, or automotive design. Students will also have the chance to apply their knowledge in real-world settings through an Automotive Intern course offered in partnership with Coastline ROP.

Auto-Maintenance & Light Engine Repair 1 & 2: Students learn the basics of car service, repair, and shop safety while gaining hands-on experience with engines, brakes, transmissions, steering, electronics, and more. Students must complete the first course before taking the second.

Advanced Auto: This course takes automotive training further by having students rebuild and blueprint engines, perform major vehicle repairs, and gain skills in welding and metal fabrication. It is open to students who have completed Auto-Maintenance & Light Engine Repair I and II and are ready for advanced, hands-on automotive work.

This program is offered at Irvine High School.

Coastline ROP (Regional Occupation Program): Through our partnership with Coastline ROP, IUSD offers expanded CTE course options after school, such as Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Pharmacy Technician, Robotics, Retail Sales, and Sports Medicine. These programs include internships to learn career skills and real-world experience that further career and education goals. For more information, see your counselor or visit coastlinerop.org.
